Illinois Administrative Driver's License Revocation

When a driver is involved in a serious injury or fatal crash, they are subject to an administrative driver's license revocation, which is administered by the Secretary of State's office and in accord with the state's attorneys. This action allows for the quick license revocation of any driver who has been involved in a serious DUI accident involving bodily injuries or death.

In serious DUI cases, a driver may have their driving privileges revoked without a hearing if the Secretary of State's office has received sufficient evidence from the state's attorney. The driving privileges will be revoked until the case is adjudicated unless the revocation is contested through an administrative hearing.

Contested a Revocation Through a Formal Hearing

If your driving privileges have been revoked for an offense involving a multiple DUI or a fatality, you must request a formal hearing and submit a $50 filing fee. Formal hearings in Illinois are typically held at the Secretary of State office in Springfield.

If you live in Bloomington, Decatur, Peoria, Springfield or any of the surrounding communities, your formal hearing will most likely be held at the address below:

  • Howlett Bldg., Rm. 212 Springfield, IL 62756

Being involved in a serious crash does not necessarily mean that you were at fault for the accident, or that alcohol was to blame; however, it will take a skilled attorney to carefully investigate the facts of your case and tailor an effective defense strategy on your behalf.

Whether you were involved in a fatal collision, or arrested for a subsequent DUI offense, you would benefit significantly by engaging an Illinois Driver’s License Lawyer from Johnson Law Group. We have handled countless cases similar to yours and can be invaluable at your formal hearing.

Our Illinois Driver’s License Lawyers Can Help

There is a vast array of ways a driver in Illinois can have their driver's license suspended by the Secretary of State. Moving violations, unpaid tickets, false information or ID—the list goes on. The good news is that there are ways to petition the state to reinstate your driver's license. For most drivers, this happens through a process called an informal hearing.

At an informal hearing, a suspended driver can explain the circumstances of their suspension and testify as to why having the ability to drive is an essential part of their life. This requires properly filed paperwork and a consistent account of events before a Hearing Officer. A skilled Illinois driver's license attorney can assist you in the process and even speak at the hearing by your side, ensuring that you do everything possible to get your driving privileges back.

Can I Get an Informal Hearing With My Violations?

Not all driving infractions can be heard at an informal hearing, however. If your suspension was the result of a serious incident, then you may not be eligible to petition for an informal hearing.

Informal hearings will not hear suspension cases involving any of the following:

  • DUI charges
  • Road incidents which resulted in a fatality
  • Sanctions due to some serious or chronic moving violations

Informal hearings are held on a walk-in basis at select driving facilities. If you believe your suspension qualifies, and you want to stand the best chance at a restricted or full reinstatement of your license, then we invite you to call Johnson Law Group today. We have made it our mission to help individuals regain their legal status as Illinois drivers and put any license issue hindering their lives behind them.

Informal Hearings

In the event that your license was suspended or revoked for an offense which would not meet the criteria for a formal hearing, you may be able to get your license back through an informal hearing. These are available without an appointment at Driver Services facilities throughout the state, and an attorney from Johnson Law Group can help.

Informal hearings are available at any of the following locations:

  • Decatur 3149 N. Woodford St.
  • Bloomington 1510 W. Market St.
  • Peoria 3311 Sterling
  • Springfield 501 S. Second Street
