Are You Eligible for License Reinstatement? We will use our 100+ years of combined experience to fight for you.

Reinstatement Eligibility in Illinois

Are you eligible to get your driver's license back?

If your driver's license was suspended or revoked after a DUI conviction, accumulation of excessive points on your driving record, or conviction for a serious traffic offense, you may be facing several months or even years without the privilege to drive. Fortunately, you may be able to shorten this period of time by petitioning the secretary of state to reinstate your license early. Our Illinois driver's license lawyer can guide you through this process and answer your questions along the way.

Requirements for Illinois Driver's License Reinstatement

If you lost your license to a statutory summary suspension after a first-time arrest for DUI, you will have to pay a $250 reinstatement fee to the secretary of state, or a fee of $500 if you are a repeat offender, before you can get your license back. After serving 30 days of the suspension period, you may be eligible to apply for a monitoring device driving permit (MDDP), which allows you to drive if you have installed a breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID) in your vehicle to monitor your intoxication level and ensure that you do not drink and drive.

If your license was revoked after a DUI conviction, you will have to meet a number of different requirements before reinstatement, including:

  • Maintain a clean driving record other than the DUI conviction
  • Undergo an alcohol or drug evaluation
  • Complete any court-ordered treatment along with alcohol education
  • Prove that you deserve to have your license reinstated
  • Pay the reinstatement fee and pass a driver's license exam

The list can feel extremely daunting if you do not have a legal advocate on your side. At Johnson Law Group, we have over 50 years of combined experience helping individuals just like you regain their driving privileges. We would be honored to help you achieve the favorable outcome you desire.
